The course mainly focuses on 10-codes which are the codes police use on their radios. There is a series of tests on the codes throughout the course to ensure students really know the information. The class goes over detective work, traffic stops, fingerprinting, interrogation techniques, weapon trajectory, and other minor things.  The course also has a series of physical activities every Thursday. The physical training includes having a police belt, a plastic weapon, and handcuffs. While wearing the gear, Jose Cuyar instructs the students to do a certain amount of push-ups, sit-ups, leg lifts, planks, and laps around the student parking lot.

Mr Cuyar is a former police officer for the New York Police Department, he wanted to teach students the aspects of going into law enforcement.  He says, “ I wanted to teach this class to be able to impart to my students some of the experiences that I went through in law enforcement and to be able to have them understand the complexities of the career.”

A few students were asked a series of questions regarding the class. After being asked why the students took the class. Mauldin High Junior Szy Wierzrbiki said, “ I took the class because Mr. Cuyar is a very hands-on teacher and is a great teacher in my opinion.”

Junior Charlotte Fox said, “ My favorite part was going to practice what we learn in real life scenarios.”

Junior Jacari Thompson is in his first year of the class. “ I just saw my friends doing it and it just looked fun,” Thompson said.
